格陵蘭冰原上1座冰融湖去年以極快的速度突然乾涸，詭異的現象讓科學家傷透腦筋，不過如今美國有科學家表示，他們已經解開謎團。
路透社報導，美國科學家團隊表示，已經搞懂這個離奇的現象，還能有助於預測全球海平面上升。
根據麻省理工學院伍茲霍爾海洋研究所海洋學聯合計畫（MIT/WHOI）的科學家，冰原裡的垂直孔穴稱為冰河壺穴，能在部分冰河下方匯集融雪，並抬升冰河。這種現象會讓冰湖下方出現裂縫，能在幾天之內排空冰湖。
不過，根據刊登在科學雜誌「自然」（Nature）的研究結果顯示，只有廣布在冰原上較低海拔、溫暖地區的冰河壺穴才會這麼脆弱。
